Assessments for Autism Spectrum are a package of multiple measures: we like to administer the ADOS-2, or MIGDAS, complete a comprehensive interview battery and standardised questionnaires (ADIR). We may also need to rule out other conditions and require measures to screen for these.
A multidisciplinary diagnosis (agreed upon by a Psychologist and Paediatrician/Psychiatrist as well as other Allied Health Professionals) of Autism is preferred. We like to discuss any possible Autism assessments with your Paediatrician or Psychiatrist before conducting. We may also ask for a Language assessment from a Speech Pathologist to be completed.
We complete autism assessments from ages 4 upwards, including adults.
Cognitive assessment are those which measure intelligence and aim to produce a score know as IQ or intelligence quotient. They are a measure of how well one performs compared to others their age.
Cognitive assessment include the WISC, WAIS and WPPSI (different tests for different ages) and can be used for meeting diagnostic criteria for intellectual disability/developmental delay or to help determine if a specific learning disorder (reading, writing, mathematics) may be present.
We complete cognitive assessments with people of all ages, from 3 years upwards.
Educational assessment measure academic achievement such as reading, writing, spelling, mathematics and other skills necessary for educational environments.
They can be general to measure many domains or for a specific purpose. See below for specific assessments around learning disorders.
We assess all school aged children and teens, as well as young adults.
Specific learning disorder's in reading, writing or mathematics (commonly known as Dyslexia, Dysgraphia or Dyscalculia) are assessed for by completing: an extensive interview around schooling history and background, composting a cognitive assessment to find individual strengths and weaknesses as well as an educational assessment to determine level of skill in academic areas.
We can complete testing for specific learning disorders for children, teens and adults.
We administer questionnaires and clinical interviews to assess for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. We also complete observations of behaviour to help determine if this diagnosis might be appropriate. A big part of this process is ruling out and exploring other possible explanations for any concentration, inattention and hyperactive presentations.
There are other assessments we can administer - if there's something in particular you need please let us know. This could include adaptive behaviour, mood and behaviour inventories, personality assessments, executive function scales or a range of different measures.
