Hello, I'm Peter, an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker at PATC. Over the past 25 years, I've dedicated my career to the Mental Health and Disability sectors, primarily focusing on children, adolescents, and their families.
My educational background encompasses a Bachelor of Arts in Social Science from LaTrobe, a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Melbourne, and a Graduate Diploma in Social Work (Advanced Practice) from LaTrobe. Throughout my career, I've refined my expertise across various clinical settings, enabling me to provide an array of evidence-based, strengths-focused, and narrative interventions tailored to young individuals and their families.
My therapeutic approach is based in trauma-informed practices and guided by an understanding of interpersonal neurobiology. I emphasise the importance of situating the young person within their family and broader social networks. Moreover, I am committed to welcoming and supporting individuals who are neurodiverse or navigating neurodevelopmental challenges. My areas of clinical focus are working with young people grappling with complex mental health issues, as well as assisting families dealing with a young person experiencing disordered eating.
In my practice, I prioritise understanding the unique perspectives of both the young person and their family. By establishing clear understandings, we can foster a productive therapeutic relationship and collaboratively strive towards positive change.
I also offer clinical supervision, providing guidance and support to fellow professionals with a special emphasis on managing complex clinical situations and navigating intricate systems of care. Additionally, I facilitate Reflective Practice sessions for organisations, fostering a culture of self- reflection and growth within teams. These sessions provide a valuable opportunity for individuals to explore their experiences, learn from them, and refine their approaches to better serve their clients and contribute to organisational goals.
